James Tyler has simply mastered the bolt-on neck guitar, and no one in the world builds an instrument with more consistency and dripping-from-every-pore-vibeiness. He just doesn’t let a less than stellar instrument leave his shop. This Classic has an exceptional neck. Refined and fast, with the wonderfully smooth matte finish that is standard on all his necks.

Based on a legendary classic, James Tyler Classic S style is a master’s vision of what this style guitar could and should be.

CRAIG'S POV

Sometimes I think I need a thesaurus for a brain, because I’m running out of ways to communicate how incredible every Tyler guitar that comes through CR Guitars has been. But I don’t know how else to describe them, because every Tyler that comes IS incredible! James Tyler has simply mastered the bolt-on neck guitar, and no one in the world builds an instrument with more consistency and dripping-from-every-pore-vibeiness (I just made that word up, I think). From my viewpoint, he just doesn’t let a less than stellar instrument leave his shop.

This Classic has an exceptional neck. Refined and fast, with the wonderfully smooth matte finish that is standard on all his necks. Frankly, I don’t know why more makers don’t do this with their finishes, because it gives the neck a kind of played-in feel, an immediate sense of familiarity to your hand. I can remember when guitarists took it upon themselves to remove the finish off the necks of their guitars, following the path of cellists and violinists. Unfortunately, most guitarists didn’t like how quickly those necks became filthy and sticky. Tyler’s neck finish is the best of both worlds; feels like it is almost not there at all, but protects the neck from all that sweat, dirt and toil.

And while we are on the finish, Tyler’s satin Ocean Teal is really a lovely color, with a depth that photos can’t capture. The ‘with bacon’ option is Tyler’s version of a ‘relic’ (where the finish looks as if it was worn through in the photos). It’s very nice too. But Tyler doesn’t age the parts of his guitars, nor the finish itself, so more than anything, the ‘with bacon’ option is Jim’s nod to the sense that the guitar already has a history, like someone you just met but feel like you’ve known for your entire life. We’ve all had that experience with people, and I had it with this guitar.

I just can’t say enough about Tyler’s guitars. If you play guitar, you simply can’t go wrong with any of James’ guitars. I said it before, just pick the look you like, and you’ll have one of the nicest guitars you will ever own.

If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.

ABOUT TYLER GUITARS
James Tyler has had a guitar in his hand almost every day since he first picked one up the summer after seventh grade, in 1964. In college, Jim studied Architecture, Design, Music, Photography and for a couple years, Theology. He paid his way through these years of collage doing guitar repair work at local guitar stores, and as a factory trained auto mechanic for Alfa Romeo, Lancia, BMW and Fiat. Later into the 1970’s, he got connected with the guys at Norman’s Rare Guitars in the San Fernando Valley, and became their main repair and restoration guy. Jim’s abilities continued to expand and soon he had enough experience and reputation that he opened his first repair shop in Reseda, CA in 1980. Since then its been a whirlwind of successes, including being chosen to be displayed among the great California guitar companies such as Fender, Rickenbacker, Mosrite and Charvel in the Museum of California's exhibit The Ultimate Guitar Show and building for artists such as Michael Landau, David Williams, Steve Lukather, Michael Anthony, and Dan Huff. James' design shapes and various ground breaking guitar finishes and most recently his line of pickups have virtually transformed the guitar building industry.
