This is a Carve Top guitar for the discerning musician who wants everything done right. If you are sick and tired of factory guitars with mediocre Maple on questionable Mahogany with boorish machine carving, this is the guitar for you.

CRAIG'S POV

This beautiful carve top model was made for John Abercrombie in the early 2000s after a house fire devastated the great guitarist’s collection of instruments.

This guitar has something special. As soon as you put it into your hands it feels like an old friend, and you can’t wait to get started on a journey together. It’s incredibly versatile, and a real a joy to play, the kind of guitar you want to play all day long, in any style, Jazz to Blues, to Rock & Roll to pop. Sousa Marches, too, if that’s your bag.

Anybody who’s familiar with John’s playing knows what an exceptional musician he is – and what an amazing guitarist.  The thing about this guitar I can’t get over is that the essence of John’s genius seems to have seeped deeply into the heart of this instrument. Every note you play somehow has more depth and meaning to it, as if part of John’s soul attached itself to the guitar.

The Marchione humbuckers are warm and articulate, and the electronics are minimal. Just a three way switch, volume and tone. But that’s all you need with this instrument to get a tremendous range of tones. Chords just sing with incredible articulation in all the voices, from major triads to complex Jazz chords.

The guitar is in excellent condition, and would be near mint were it not for a few  small dings and scuffs.

The provenance of this guitar is well documented, right down to a gold, hand-engraved neck plate with dedication to John Abercrombie. This guitar is a significant piece of guitar history, having been owned and played by one of the great musicians of the last 50 years, a true legendary guitarist.

ABOUT MARCHIONE GUITARS
At one time in his life, Stephen Marchione spent six hours a day playing the guitar. Now he makes them—in fact, since beginning his career as a guitar maker in 1989, Stephen has created more than three-hundred guitars for some of the best guitar players in the world. The journey from high-school jazz devotee to “the finest young guitar maker working today,” according to Chamber Music America, was a rich and complicated one. After establishing his own brand and working for several years in New York, Stephen Marchione moved to Houston, Texas, where he builds his entire family of guitars, but Marchione has also studied privately since 1994 with Manhattan-based violin maker Guy Rabut. "I try to build one violin a year to keep my chops up" Says Marchione. He feels that building classical guitars and violins broadens his understanding of top thicknessing, tap tuning, and surface preparation. On the other hand, building electric guitars has taught him the importance of the fretboard in a player's appreciation of a guitar. Marchione is considered one of a very few leading-edge pioneers in the design of guitars that combine elements of both jazz and classical construction. This well-rounded approach contributes to the magic one finds in a Marchione instrument, a magic that is at once very broad yet truly individual.
