The pickups on this Saticoy are hand wired in house, which allows Lance to finely tune the tone of the entire instrument. Lance’s ear means you’ll get the warm mid range bump of Alder, and the beautiful glassy sound that you expect from a great S-style guitar. From the low E string all the way up to the highest frets, this guitar sounds incredible.

CRAIG'S POV

I’d like to introduce you to Roseann. Roseann - take a bow.

Lance Lerman of LsL names all of his guitars, and this extraordinary Strat just arrived at the shop.

Roseann has  a lightweight Alder body, a lightly flamed maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. She’s a true reincarnation of an early 60s S-style. Everything about this guitar captures the essential warmth and spirit of a vintage guitar. If not exactly like going back in time and getting a new Strat in the early 60s, it is, in my opinion, the best vintage Strat you can find for less than $3K.

Lance Lerman has made it his mission to make the best vintage style bolt on neck guitar out there. There really isn’t any substitute for working from raw materials if you want to build the finest instruments, which is exactly what LsL does.

When you are playing this guitar, you feel like you have been playing it all your life. The fingerboard in not a big slab of rosewood like on more modern guitars, but, like a great vintage S-style guitar, the rosewood seems to have melted into the maple neck. Just wonderful, and vintage correct. The taper is perfect, and the C profile absolutely nails the Pre CBS 60s vibe.

When I talk to LsL, I ask them to round the fingerboard edges, which adds to the warm feeling of the neck. The 9.5 radius with the 6150 frets make this guitar eminently playable. There’s no choking here. The pickups are hand wired in house, which allows Lance to finely tune the tone of the entire instrument. Lance’s ear means you’ll get the warm mid range bump of Alder, and the beautiful glassy sound that you expect from a great S-style guitar. From the low E string all the way up to the highest frets, this guitar sounds incredible.

The finish is aged nitrocellulose lacquer, with light relicing. The body color is called Ice Pink, and it’s pretty much impossible to capture the beauty, depth and nuances of the finish in a still photograph. In person, when you hold the guitar up to the light, the subtle pink color is permeated by a shimmering white that is almost silver. It’s so striking I had the headstock finished to match the body. It’s so alive, so vibrant, yet has a lived-in look that makes it seem like an old friend.

Bottom line, this guitar feels and sounds Masterbuilt all the way.

ABOUT LsL GUITARS
The LSL Guitars motto is, "Never sell a guitar you don't want to keep." It all started when Lance Lerman experienced an eBay scam where he paid for a '73 Tele that never arrived. At that stage in his career Lance had had at least two stints as a builder/repairman of instruments and had generated 25 years of professional woodworking experience, running multiple large woodworking companies in the US and China. In response to his eBay experience Lance took it upon himself to build a Tele from scratch. With some dread he brought it to the amazing guitar guru, Tommy Kay, handed it over and let him play it. Tommy said, "YOU made this?" "Yeah, I made it" was the reply. Tommy: "You made the body?" And again the answer was "Yes." "You made the neck?" "Yes, I made the whole thing, all of it, except the metal parts, from lumber - planks of wood." Tommy's answer: "I'm blown away!, I'm totally blown away!" Then the question that started a guitar company: "Can you make more of these?" From that point forward, Lance started turning out guitars which kept selling immediately - sometimes within hours. This continued until it became apparent that this was the job Lance was really looking for. A job he felt passionate about, loved doing and quite possibly was one of the few things one could still make in the US successfully. So LSL Instruments was born, and they are finding success with the delivery of every instrument.
