Daniel Slaman Jazz Pauletta

The Jazz Pauletta model is made with lightweight woods for the body and neck to produce a sound and vibe similar to hollow archtop jazz guitars. Basically a jazz sound in a smaller package, easier to carry around and travel with, especially by airplane. The pickup is re-configured in-house by Daniel Slaman Guitars, from bar pickup to adjustable pole pieces. The sound is bright and warm at the same time, a unique feature of Charlie Christian style pickups. The tailpiece is a scaled down 250 style, handmade for Daniel Slaman Guitars exclusively by Dirk van der Meij. The wooden bridge adds to the open, vibrant character of the sound. Handcarved top and neck, thin antiqued nitro cellulose finish.

Daniel Slaman's new solid body electric model, the Pauletta, is a wonderfully bold statement; no punches pulled here. Slaman set out to create an archtop sounding electric that was feedback resistant, rich and woody sounding, and inspiring to play. Crafted with lightweight resonant tone woods by one of our finest builders, the Pauletta offers the jazz player a truly honest alternative to a hollow body guitar.

It is one of the finest jazz solid bodies I have ever played. The custom Charlie Christian design pickup along with the handmade 250 style tailpiece add a sonic quality that I haven’t experienced in other solid body electrics. The sound is immediate and present with a warmth and brilliance that is addictive. I'm sure Les Paul himself would have loved this guitar. Make no mistake,the Pauletta is breath of fresh air for the contemporary jazz guitarist. The brilliant Miles Okazaki has been playing one and his sound is just killing. As for the guitar itself, Slaman has put as much care and love into it as he does for his incredible archtops. His wood recipe of redwood and Spanish cedar only adds to its tingling resonance. The fit and finish are righteous and the neck carve — very '59 feeling- is just perfect. I really love this guitar, the way it feels, looks and sounds. Heads up all my fellow archtop lovers there is a new gal in town: the Pauletta.

Daniel Slaman has been making guitars since 1978. Born in 1957, the first guitar was made with help from his father and the book ‘Classical Guitar Making’ by the late Irving Sloane. After spending much time with the classical and flamenco guitars, since 1995 Daniel has been making archtop jazz guitars exclusively. To Slaman, guitar making is an expression of creative freedom; every choice that is made for a particular guitar is made to achieve a unity in design. The result may not be to everybody's taste, that's a different matter, but the unity of design should always shine through in choices of wood, size, decoration and finish colour of the guitar. The result is always a unique one-of-a-kind instrument, made by one mind and set of hands. Slaman players connect to their guitar(s) in a unique way.
