Preowned 2016, near mint

The SJ model is the designated sound cannon member of the Collings acoustic line. Standing front and center, it has a commanding presence with a wide dynamic range. It's able to deliver a deep round bass, a pronounced punchy midrange and sparkling transient highs. With a classic esthetic and body shape it has a built in history, yet like all Collings is built with modern next level skill and craftsmanship.

The SJ is Collings' version of what is commonly called a small Jumbo. Although the 16 inch lower bout is slightly wider than a dreadnought, and the sides almost as deep, the tight curve at the waist creates a very different sound chamber. Maple SJs typically have a more pronounced midrange response when compared to a dreadnought. Players looking for the bass and overall volume of a large guitar but with lots of treble clarity and midrange crunch often find just what they need in the curvaceous SJ.

CRAIG'S POV

Out of a collection, this stunning Collings Custom SJ is in near mint condition. Other than the pro installation of the LR Baggs Element pickup system , this SJ shows visually no signs of use.

The SJ model is the designated sound cannon member of the Collings acoustic line. Standing front and center, it has a commanding presence with a wide dynamic range. With a classic esthetic and body shape it has a built in history, yet like all Collings is built with modern next level skill and craftsmanship. This particular SJ is a thing of beauty with its superlative tone woods (note the German spruce top), nitro full sunburst body and graceful but subtle inlay work. The fit, finish, and playability are what we have come to expect from the fine folks at Collings. Add in the unobtrusive LR Baggs Element pickup, and you have a performance-ready instrument. This preowned beauty is simply a righteous guitar ready to go and ready to be your next inspiration.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
