Preowned, 2006

In 2006, guitarist Matte Henderson approached Theo Scharpach with the possibility of building his ultimate seven string acoustic guitar. Due to Matte's lifetime obsession with North and South Indian classical musics, he was looking for an instrument that would enable him to do microtonal bends, intervallic vibrato and all other manner of fretted ornamentation. It was clear that the best path forward was a scalloped board. Matte was also clear about the fact that he wanted a purely acoustic guitar. No internal microphones, pick ups etc.

Original owner Matt Henderson’s POV:
In 2006, I approached Theo Scharpach with the possibility of building me my ultimate seven string acoustic guitar. Due to my lifetime obsession with North and South Indian classical musics, I was looking for an instrument that would enable me to do microtonal bends, intervallic vibrato and all other manner of fretted ornamentation. It was clear to me that the best path forward was a scalloped board. I was also clear about the fact that I wanted a purely acoustic guitar. No internal microphones, pick ups etc.

After running through a variety of options, we went with the following specs.
- Cedar top.
- Brazilian rosewood back, with internal maple ply on the sides, for maximum reinforcement. The top and back are thin and gently braced in order to vibrate as freely as possible.
- Scalloped ebony fingerboard with 24 frets.
- 28" scale length in order to support the response of the fundamental on the wound strings, especially the low g, as the guitar was designed to be tuned down a whole step (gdgcfad).

This spectacular instrument has been plek’d to perfection and is an absolute marvel of materials, design and execution.

ABOUT SCHARPACH GUITARS
Theo Scharpach is a legendary Austrian guitar maker who has been crafting some of the most wonderful archtop guitars for decades. His work has been coveted by collectors worldwide with prices of his exquisite collector guitars going for well over $50,000. Many world renowned professionals — Al Dimeola and Steve Howe for instance, are inspired by Theo's high level of craftsmanship and his guitars' exquisite tone and playability. Besides his renowned craftsmanship, one of the distinguishing elements of Theo's guitars is his extraordinary aged wood selection. Most of his woods are over 70 years old with some pieces over 500 years old.
