CRAIG'S POV

This is a very cool—and very rare—2007 PRS Modern Eagle LTD in exceptionally fine condition, preowned by a collector of PRS instruments. The owner ordered the guitar in 2006 from the PRS custom shop, and waited a full year for it to arrive. The Modern Eagle was considered by many to be “The guitar to get” in 2006, and the model received a glowing 5 star review in Premier Guitar in 2009, including a coveted Premier Gear award. Moreover, the Modern Eagle has a unique pedigree because it was based on the guitar Paul Reed Smith personally played when recording and gigging. The charter for the design was nothing short of making an instrument for players who's principal desire was for the most toneful guitar possible.

There are very few guitar makers in the world who have the wood stock to be able to make a guitar with a solid Brazilian rosewood neck, and Paul Reed Smith, with his legendary wood stores, is one of them. There is much debate about the tonal properties of Brazilian rosewood, but many luthiers and players feel it brings a special warmth and sweetness to a guitar’s sound. It’s not a magical wood, but certainly in the right hands can make a magical sounding instrument. It has been a prized wood for acoustic guitars for the last hundred + years, but not used as much as a tone wood in electric guitars. Paul Reed Smith was certainly a pioneer in using fine tone woods—including Brazilian rosewood—for electric guitars.

This guitar has miles of sustain, and a strong, articulate voice. LP players will love the feel and solid footing, and the hand wound humbucker pickups give the guitar a range that will allow you to play jazz, country, blues, even heavy metal, and be perfectly at home. It also has a very balanced sound, and the wonderfully solid feel of the neck gives you confidence to take your music wherever it wants to go.

And if that is not enough, the guitar is visually stunning. The special “ripple” abalone inlays shimmer when held up to light, and the wonderful finish PRS is known for accentuates the beautiful three dimensional flame maple top. This is a player’s guitar, but it also has museum looks!

ABOUT PRS PRIVATE STOCK
Everyone has heard of PRS Guitars; they are one of America's great entrepreneurial success stories. But not everyone has heard of the Paul Reed Smith Private Stock instruments. These are special guitars, in every sense. That's what inspired us here at CR Guitars to seek them out; they conform perfectly to our vision of what "hand selected" really means. The goal behind the PRS Private Stock of instruments is not only to create the most beautiful and best playing guitars money can buy, but the best sounding. PRS works very closely with each order - through hourly discussions, experimentation, meticulous checks of every detail at each step in the process and making final tweaks when the guitar is complete - to make sure they are building the best guitars possible. If you get an extraordinary instrument from Private Stock that is equally as good as a family heirloom and a musician’s tool to make a living on, then the Private Stock goal has come to fruition.

“Whether built to your specification or ours, every Private Stock instrument is carefully guided through the process by highly talented, seasoned guitar makers, and each completed instrument is checked and signed by Paul Miles and me. From all of us on the Private Stock team, thank you for looking at and considering a Private Stock instrument. If you decide on a Private Stock guitar, we will give everything we have to make it the best instrument you’ve ever experienced.” - Paul Reed Smith
