aged finish and hardware

The "New Aged" finish is sort of a "New Old Stock" relic, not overly distressed, just the right recipe here to warm up the look and feel for that vintage-like panache. They even wired their electronic harness with vintage capacitors for that extra touch. The guitar sounds wonderful, very touch sensitive with a great dynamic range.

The folks at Collings are now offering an option which blends the best parts of an old guitar with the beauty, accuracy and precision that Collings is known for. After careful consideration of the most desirable characteristics of revered guitars, the "New Aged" option includes a process of light lacquer checking, vintage inspired pickups with aged covers, and dulled hardware. This finish is offered with warmed hues and gentle play wear of a cherished instrument.

The Collings CL "New Aged" features an eastern maple top, complimented by the newly designed CL pickguard. Clear lexan cover plates on the back will allow visual access to the stunning hand-soldered harness with '50s wiring and vintage capacitors (standard plates included in case). This heirloom inspired option is now available to order.

CRAIG'S POV

For the last several years I've been offering several Collings electric models with fingerboard binding, eastern maple tops, aged hardware, pickguards and ThroBak pickups in order to achieve a more vintage vibe. Well, it seems that my friends at Collings have been listening and have formalized those options and then some, introducing a new finish format - "New Aged." All I can say is that I'm deeply impressed! The finishes are perfectly in line with my taste; sort of a "New Old Stock" relic, not overly distressed, just the right recipe here to warm up the look and feel for that vintage-like panache. They even wired their electronic harness with vintage capacitors for that extra touch. The guitar sounds wonderful, very touch sensitive with a great dynamic range. The eastern maple top along the the ThroBaks really go along way in achieving that tasteful, classic late '50s voice. This really is a great guitar, one to reckon with and certainly a model for Collings to feel very proud of. Well done!

If you'd like to find out more about this item, just call or e-mail me. It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it.

ABOUT COLLINGS GUITARS
Bill Collings moved from Ohio to Texas in the mid 1970’s. Spurred by a lack of interest in medical school, this move enabled him to combine lifelong interests in both guitars and tools into the challenge of stringed instrument building and repair. After a couple of years in Houston, several guitars and a few banjos later, he headed west to southern California. Making it only as far as Austin, where he shared shops with fellow luthiers Tom Ellis and Mike Stevens. From there, he set up his own small shop in a wooden "one car" garage. His reputation for outstanding quality and meticulous attention to detail quickly spread. In 1989, he rented a 1000 square foot space and hired two helpers. Fast forward to present day where Collings craftsmanship is respected by professional and amateur musicians alike…anyone on the quest for quality. Some of these include artists; Keith Richards, Lyle Lovett, Pete Townshend, Emmylou Harris, Andy Summers, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Joni Mitchell, Don Felder, John Sebastian, Lou Reed, John Fogerty, Tim O'Brien, Pete Huttlinger, Kenny Smith, Brian May, Joan Baez, John Prine, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, and Steven Spielberg to name a few. You owe it to yourself to try one.
