Traditional style meets the 21st century. Lucky 13 is inspired by the early 20th century guitars made famous at the crossroads. Widely adopted by players of the day, these 12th fret instruments were expected to be loud enough to entertain crowds un-amplified, while sustaining the bumps of traveling the curcuit– a task these wooden acoustics were not well suited for.

Enter the 21st century and Blackbird’s proprietary hollow-neck, uni-body blends the powerful voice of an ultra-light boutique guitar with the ruggedness of carbon fiber. The striking look and vintage feel of Lucky 13 speaks of a certain familiarity; this vanguard instrument has a deep-roots dating a century ago. It's diminutive size belies tremendous projection and dynamics affording a rare tonal versatilty perfect for both fingerstyle and flat-picking. Carbon fiber is much stronger than wood, humidity proof, but also more acoustically efficient for a big sound, nearly 3/4 guitar perfect for the road.

ABOUT BLACKBIRD GUITARS
Blackbird Guitars was founded by Joe Luttwak and Kyle Wolfe and now includes fellow designer Troy Stevens. After years searching for a compact guitar actually worth bringing along for the ride, all they could find was thin sounding and fragile. Eventually they realized that none of the established companies would tackle this problem so they decided to do it themselves. It started innocently enough with the typical design process: produce as many ideas as possible and prototype them. It helped having all the latest tools such as three-dimensional CAD (computer-aided design), computer controlled laser cutters and routers as well as advanced materials such as carbon-fiber, and structural foams. Also, being based in the San Francisco Bay Area meant access to many of world's great steel-string luthiers who consulted and encouraged the project along. It quickly became clear that their non-traditional backgrounds were resulting in radically new directions. The result is part mountain dulcimer and part F1 race car that harmoniously balances technology with traditional craftsmanship. All Blackbird Guitars are built in their shop in San Francisco overlooking the Bay.
